VIP projects are part of a new program uniting undergraduate education and academic research, enabling enriched invention and innovation on a long-term team-based research project. Our project as part of the MINEX team, is to explore how off-world robotics, IoT and VR can bring the mining industry into the future.
For the UNSW MINEX IoT Team to truly envision a future for monitoring technology within a mine environment, it is necessary to research how emerging methods of environmental monitoring using IoT technology can be successfully designed, created, and implemented. Working alongside the Geotechnical company Redwood Teq, the MINEX Team will endeavour to engineer an environmental monitoring system to meet the unique needs of a mine setting.
UNSW has integrated these projects as a method of connecting industry partners with teams of students in order to provide opportunities for more practical and hands-on applications of our degree, mix with students and academics of different skill levels and sets and ultimately, to prepare us for a future in engineering.
